It's a fact that dating, at 40, is NOT as easy as it was at 28. Not even close. There is more baggage to deal with... kids, failed relationships/marriages, jobs, etc. And people are pickier. Or, at least, the majority of people are pickier. (Some just don't give a rip and are looking for the first person that acknowledges them and is willing to settle down, which ends up leading to another failed relationship/marriage and adds to the baggage.)
And at 40, people are usually past the stage of doing the whole bar scene thing, so it's tricky to meet new people. You've usually been at your job for an extended period of time, so there's no meeting new people there... you already know most everyone. (Or, in my case, you work in a small office of 4 people and that's just awkward.) Meeting at the grocery store only happens in the movies. Meeting at church sounds so wholesome, but that rarely happens. So, where do you meet new people of your age?
Online. At least, that's where more and more people are turning. You have quite a selection of online matchmaking sites to choose from, too: Match, Zoosk, eHarmony, PlentyOfFish, Tinder, SingleParents, and so on. I, personally, have tried Match and Zoosk and have made a few friends (JUST friends) as a result. If you can sort through the crazies and find a legit, potential match, you're very lucky. But that's the issue... sorting through the crazies.
People have NO idea how to make up their online dating profile. I scroll through and OFTEN think, "Holy crap! THAT's the best picture you could find to post?!" Or, "What in the hell?! WHY would you write something like THAT on your profile?!" People need help. And it's stirred up a need in me to blog about some of the crazy stuff I find on these profiles. Tips, if you will, about do's and don'ts of online dating profiles. (And I had a lengthy conversation with a friend of mine... that I met thru Zoosk... about what we find on men and women's dating profiles, so I'll add some of what he's said, too.)
So... enjoy the blog. Dating, these days, is TOUGH!!! But it's even tougher when the pool of potential matches is full of nutjobs.
Happy reading!
